About the role
The role of Environmental Health Officer is to contribute to the promotion of environmental, food and/or public health standards for the Central Coast Community as well as provide quality customer service and create value for the community.
Key activities of this role include:

Apply environmental, food, and public health legislation to activities in the Central Coast Community.

Provide technical advice to Council, businesses and the general public on matters of environmental, food and\or public health activities

Respond to and investigate environmental, food safety and/or public health incidents and prepare evidence for enforcement action where there has been non-compliance with legislation
- Deliver the Food and Public Health Inspection program as well as develop, implement, and oversee the onsite sewage management program
- Prepare and submit evidence in the Land and Environment Court and Local Court for enforcement actions following pollution incidents
- Provide technical advice on environmental matters for new developments and applications
- Manage Council’s corporate risks by completing appropriate documentation
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Degree in Environmental Health, Environmental Science or Natural Resource Management or related field OR demonstrated solid contemporary experience in a similar role, combined with ongoing professional development
- Training as an “Authorised Officer” under Food Act 2003
- Training as an “Authorised Officer” under Protection of Environment Operations Act 1997
- Current Class C drivers licence
- Hepatitis A & B vaccinations and Tetanus or willing to obtain prior to commencement
You will also have:
- Experience with the Local Government Act, Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, Protection of the Environment Operations Act, the Food Act, and the Public Health Act.
- Experience in conducting environmental, food, and/or public health inspection programs to meet regulatory requirements.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills, including discussing complex technical matters and persuading stakeholders.
- Experience in responding to and investigating environmental, food safety, and/or public health incidents; preparing evidence for enforcement action.
- Experience in onsite sewage management, soil science, and wastewater processes.
- Experience in providing technical advice on air, noise, and water pollution control, contamination, and waste disposal practices; ensuring compliance and enforcing actions.
- Experience in preparing and submitting evidence in the Land and Environment Court and Local Court.
- Experience in providing technical advice on environmental matters for new developments and applications.

Other important information
- The commencing salary for this position is up to $93.1k. Central Coast Council also provides progression opportunities for employees to progress up to the maximum salary of 112k on completion of assessment of skills and performance plus 12% superannuation
- We have a permanent full-time role available
- This role will be able to access a 9-day fortnight
- We are able to offer hybrid and flexible working conditions for this role
- This role is located at the Wyong Administration Building
A leaseback vehicle is provided in this role for official duties and private use.
