Crew Member Bushland Maintenance

About the role

As a Crew Member Bushland Maintenance, you will support the construction, improvement and ongoing maintenance of bushland reserves while delivering high‑quality customer service and value to the community. You’ll work under the direction of a Team Leader and be part of a supportive, safety‑focused crew. This is a hands‑on role where no two days are the same. You’ll be working across bushland reserves, parks and natural areas—maintaining trails, managing vegetation, supporting bushfire mitigation and helping keep our community spaces safe, clean and accessible

This position is required to provide quality customer service and create value for the community.

Key activities of this role include:

You’ll be involved in a wide range of practical and environmental works, including:

  • Bushland maintenance such as mowing, brush cutting and cleaning picnic areas
  • Construction and maintenance of walking tracks and service trails
  • Bushfire mitigation, land restoration and weed control using bush regeneration techniques
  • Minor construction and repairs to fencing, gates, signage, boardwalks and other environmental infrastructure
  • Safe operation and maintenance of tools, plant and equipment including chainsaws, mowers and 4WD vehicles with trailers
  • Collecting and safely disposing of biological and non‑biological hazards, including animal remains
  • Monitoring for potential asbestos in public work locations and supporting safe identification and disposal
  • Completing administrative tasks such as WHS reporting, GPS vehicle checks, training and leave applications
  • Participating in out‑of‑hours emergency and non‑emergency works such as bushfire mitigation, flood recovery and lagoon openings

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A current MR Driver’s Licence
  • AQF3 Chemical AccreditationAQF3 Conservation and Land Management (or equivalent)
  • Competency in chainsaw operation (trim and cut felled trees)
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Asbestos Awareness Training
  • General Construction Induction Card (NSW SafeWork)

You will also have:

  • Demonstrated experience in native vegetation management and natural area maintenance
  • Strong understanding of WHS and its practical application on work sites
  • The ability to work collaboratively, communicate effectively with staff and the public, and follow detailed instructions under supervision

Other important information

  • The commencing salary for this position is up to $63.5K. Central Coast Council also provides progression opportunities for employees to progress up to the maximum salary of $73.5K on completion of assessment of skills and performance plus 12% superannuation 
  • We have a permanent full-time 
  • This role will be able to access a 9 day fortnight
  • This role is located at the Erina Depot
