About the role

The role of Plant Operator is responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of assigned Council heavy plant and trucks operating within established Council, Local and State Authority guidelines. You will be responsible for providing support for civil works of Council's assets, with a focus on quality service delivery as a specialist plant operator across a variety of environments including open space and recreation, water and sewerage assets and natural assets. 

This position is required to provide quality customer service and create value for the community.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • a current Heavy Rigid (HR), or Medium Rigid (MR) Driver's Licence with obligation to upgrade to a (HR) within a specified time if required
  • a valid General Construction Induction Card - SafeWork NSW or equivalent
  • a current RMS NSW Traffic Control Stop Slow accreditation or commitment to obtain within a specified time period 
  • the relevant licences or certification of competency to operate allocated plant, which may include excavator, backhoe, front end loader and skid steer or with obligation to obtain within a specified time period as required
  • a current Working near Overhead Powerlines Safety accreditation or commitment to obtain within a specified time period
  • experience working as a plant operator within the civil construction and maintenance industry
  • knowledge of the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) fatigue management requirements for operating a vehicle with a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) of over 12t and Chain of Responsibility (CoR) principles
  • the ability to work efficiently and effectively with different work units under various supervisors and adapt to quickly changing work environments
  • experience in general labouring duties within the civil maintenance and construction industry
  • experience in correct load restraint practices
  • knowledge of heavy vehicle and plant operating procedures, practices, inspection, and minor maintenance repairs

Other important information

  • The commencing salary for this position is up to $66k per year. Central Coast Council also provides progression opportunities for employees to progress up to the maximum salary of $76.5k on completion of assessment of skills and performance plus 12% superannuation + $19.49 per week working allowance or hourly rate equivalent 
  • We have two permanent full-time roles available and casual positions
  • This role will be able to access a 9 day fortnight
  • This role is located at either Council's Charmhaven or Erina Works Depot

Council may create an eligibility list from this recruitment process and may utilise this eligibility list to fill other permanent or temporary vacancies.
