Fitter and Machinist - Water and Sewer

About the role

The Fitter and Machinist is essential in maintaining and managing mechanical assets within Council's Water and Sewer Directorate. This position involves both scheduled and reactive maintenance of mechanical process equipment across Council's workshop, treatment plants, headworks and water and sewer network, ensuring that all operations meet regulatory requirements and service standards. 

Reporting to the Team Leader Mechanical Treatment Plants, this role will see you responsible for conducting condition assessments, troubleshooting mechanical issues, and actively collaborating with other trades to ensure optimal performance of Council's assets. 

This position is required to provide quality customer service and create value for the community.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • a Craftsman’s Certification and Certificate of Proficiency in Fitting and Machining, combined with ongoing professional development
  • a current MR Drivers Licence
  • demonstrated experience working in a similar mechanical workshop environment, with demonstrated experience in using manual lathes, radial drills and universal mills
  • the ability to perform work on mechanical assets within headworks, treatment plants, water and sewer networks and including residential environments, assessing the risk and ensuring safety of self, community members, Council assets and environment
  • demonstrated ability to use basic computer programs (including Word, Excel, Outlook), GIS, SCADA, and hardware including tablets, phones and computers

Various licences/certificates which can include:

  • a valid Construction General Induction card – Safework NSW or equivalent
  • a current Confined Space Entry Certificate
  • a current Provide First Aid Certificate
  • a Certificate of Competency for Work Safely at Heights
  • a National Licence to Perform High Risk Work for Dogging / Dogman Certification
  • a National Licence to Perform High Risk Work for Vehicle Loading Crane
  • a National Licence to Perform High Risk Work for Elevated work platform
  • a working near overhead powerlines
  • a Low voltage rescue training ticket

Other important information

  • The commencing salary for this position is up to $76.9k per year. Central Coast Council also provides progression opportunities for employees to progress up to the maximum salary of $89.1k on completion of assessment of skills and performance + $19.49 per week working allowance + 12% superannuation 
  • We have a permanent full-time role available.
  • This role will be able to access a 9-day fortnight.
  • This role is located at Council's Erina Works Depot.
