About the role

Council’s Laycock Street Community Theatre and Peninsula Theatre are a valued and much loved part of the local community delivering a diverse range of productions including musicals, dance, live music and children's shows to thousands of patrons each week. 

The role of Casual Front of House Officer is responsible for working as part of a cohesive team to deliver an exceptional customer experience for patrons from the moment they enter the Theatre. This could involve meeting and greeting patrons of all ages and ensuring they feel welcome, serving beverages and food at the bar, supervising audiences during shows, or assisting with a diverse range of venue operations to ensure all productions run smoothly.

Successful applicants will be employed on a casual day-to-day basis and may be required to be available to work between Monday and Sunday 8am to 11:30pm, with shifts primarily available between Wednesday and Sunday, across matinee performances and evenings.    

This position is required to provide quality customer service and create value for the community.

Key activities of this role include: 

  • Be the friendly and courteous face of the Theatre at performances and events promoting the Theatre as a welcoming, inclusive and safe environment for all staff and guests
  • Provide exceptional customer service and supervision of the public to ensure a positive experience for patrons, producers, artists and production personnel. This includes managing the behaviour of audience members to ensure safety and the creative demands of productions are met
  • Serve customers at the bar, monitor stock levels, stock rotation and replenishment and assist with deliveries as required
  • Assist patrons with check in processes, and seating and ticketing information, and aid patrons with accessibility needs in finding their seat.

About you:

  • Ideally you have worked in a similar fast paced customer facing role in events or hospitality, where you have served food and beverages, and used point of sale systems 
  • You enjoy providing an exceptional customer experience
  • You are a great communicator, with a positive interpersonal style which ensures you can connect with audiences of all ages and backgrounds
  • You have the confidence to ensure large audiences are processed smoothly in our venues, keeping audiences, staff and performers safe
  • A proactive problem solver you can think on your feet and use your initiative to get things done
  • Being part of a positive, flexible and supportive team is important to you
  • You hold a Current Responsible Service of Alcohol Certificate 
  • You hold a Current First Aid Certificate and CPR Certificate (or you are willing to obtain these prior to any offer of employment).  

Council may create an eligibility list from this recruitment process and may utilise this list to fill other permanent or temporary vacancies.
