About the role

Casual Pool Lifeguards are an important and highly valued part of our Pool Lifeguarding team allowing Central Coast Council to provide safe and enjoyable aquatic environments in accordance with the Council’s policies, and the requirements of the public and industry standards.

As part of our Casual team, you will play a key role as you connect with members of the public, assist with supervision of the pool environment, manage customer enquiries, respond to incidents, and educate customers on relevant safety requirements.

We are looking for professional, team oriented and highly motivated individuals who enjoy being part of a diverse team, and understand the importance of aquatic safety, along with providing a positive customer experience. Our casuals have a great opportunity to get to know all of our teams from Peninsula Leisure Centre Woy Woy to Toukley Aquatic Centre, and enjoy variety in the teams, tasks and days and times worked.

This position is required to provide quality customer service and create value for the community.

Successful applicants will be employed on a casual day-to-day basis. Shifts will be available Monday to Sunday, between the hours of 4am and 11pm. Penalty rates apply for weekend shifts.

Key activities of this role include: 

  • Ensure the public safety at all times through active supervision of the swimming environment;
  • Monitor pool water quality under direction of crew leader and shift supervisor as directed to ensure water quality is maintained to industry regulations;
  • Maintain excellent and ongoing customer focus within the business, to ensure a positive experience for all users;
  • Provide emergency response and first aid as required;
  • Follow safe work practices and take reasonable care of own and others health and safety.

Essential Criteria includes:

  • Current Royal Life Saving Society Australia pool lifeguard qualification or equivalent; 
  • Current Provide First Aid qualification (HLTAID 011);
  • Working with Children Check Clearance Number or Application Number as per Child Protection (Working with Children) Regulation 2013 for the purpose of verification;
  • Demonstrated experience working in an aquatic or leisure environment providing aquatic safety;
  • Strong customer service ethos and a demonstrated customer-centric approach to service provision;
  • Demonstrated ability to embrace change and commitment to work across multiple work locations and across the spread of hours 4am – 11pm Monday to Sunday.

It is the responsibility of successful applicants to undertake a course of Hepatitis B and Tetanus vaccinations or to demonstrate their immunity prior to commencement of employment.
