About the role

The role of Casual Library Assistant is essential in delivering effective library services to our patrons. Under the supervision of the Team Leader Library Resources, you will engage with library users, perform circulation desk duties, and assist in maintaining a welcoming library environment.

Successful applicants will be employed on a casual day-to-day basis and could be working at any of our Library Branches or Outreach Services across the Coast, rostered between Monday to Sunday, primarily between the hours of 8.00am and 9.00pm. Our Casuals have a great opportunity to connect with all of our teams from Umina Beach to Lake Haven, and enjoy variety in their tasks, customers, and days and times worked.

This position requires a proactive approach to customer service and a commitment to creating value for the community through library resources and programs.

What You’ll Do:

  • Manage circulation desk procedures including loans, returns, and new memberships.
  • Respond to customer enquiries and complaints effectively, ensuring satisfaction.
  • Provide guidance on the use of library resources and technology.
  • Prepare promotional materials and deliver reading programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the library's operations.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Higher School Certificate OR demonstrated solid contemporary experience in a similar role combined with ongoing professional development
  • Current Working with Children Check

Other important information

  • The hourly rate for this position is $34.8920 + 25% Casual Loading. This role also offers penalty rates for any weekend work + 12% superannuation. 
  • This is a Casual position, working up to 35 hours per week on a rotating roster Monday to Sunday. 
  • This role has the opportunity to work across all Central Coast Council Library Branches and Outreach Services. 

Council may create an eligibility list from this recruitment process and may utilise this eligibility list to fill other permanent or temporary vacancies.
