  • Commencing salary: $1,914 to $2,301 per week + superannuation

This unique position will lead our payroll and people services team and provide payroll and first level human resource advice to the organisation. You will be responsible for providing regular and routine reporting and be able to provide expert support to ensure payroll systems and processes meet audit requirements. You will have experience in coaching, mentoring and leading professionals and be able to communicate feedback that fosters a culture of continual improvement and growth. 

This position is required to provide quality customer service and create value for the community.

Key activities of this role include: 

  • Manage accurate and timely delivery of the payroll function for Central Coast Council employees 
  • Manage and oversee employee support queues related to People and Culture queries, ensuring timely and effective first point resolution. This includes monitoring response times and any concerns arising to identify patterns and proactively implement solutions that improve overall employee satisfaction
  • Lead the provision of high quality first level People and Culture advice and service that supports the business and results in the ongoing education of staff 
  • Operationally support the business as a member of the People Services Section; answering employee, manager, and People and Culture queries, drafting correspondence and supporting the wider operations and processes of People and Culture
  • Manage and supervise the completion of all weekly and end of month processing and reporting in relation to bank reconciliations, leave liability reporting, appointments and separations

Essential Criteria:

  • Degree qualification in Accounting, Finance, Business Management, Human Resources, or related field OR demonstrated significant experience in a similar role, combined with ongoing professional development
  • Significant experience and expertise with HRIS and Payroll systems
  • Demonstrated leadership behaviours, including active communication with the team in regard to performance, business strategy, diversity, coaching and mentoring and change management
  • Demonstrated experience in developing policy and procedures
  • Demonstrated experience in leading initiatives to evaluate and refine payroll processes and areas of improvement to create efficiencies including managing projects and system upgrades
  • Well-developed performance improvement and consultation skills
  • Demonstrated experience in building strong, credible relationships and influence, persuade or negotiate outcomes that are of benefit or add value, to all or part of the organisation
  • Proven ability to assess, interpret and judge information or situations, and formulate recommendations, provide specialist advice, or deliver a service, based on the findings
