Central Coast Council receives more than 3,000 development applications per year, with a construction value of more than $1 billion, in addition to associated civil engineering approvals, supporting infrastructure and principal certifying authority functions. In the past few years there has been continual growth in development activity across the area, which is expected to continue as the regional economy continues to grow. Due to this continued growth Council is looking for Planners with a range of experience and skills to work across all areas of Development Assessment.

As a Senior Development Planner or Development Planner you are responsible for achieving environmentally and socially responsible sustainable developments for the community. You will provide professional and technical advice for planning, development, property and land use matters to Council, staff, community and other relevant authorities.

You will be responsible for assessing applications related to land use policy and compliance, ensuring relevant legislation and Council’s local laws and policies are adhered to. Seniors will also be mentoring staff and working on more complex projects, all while working for the community and promoting Council’s service in this competitive market. 

This position is required to provide quality customer service and create value for the community.

Key activities of this role include:

  • Conducting assessments of development and other planning related applications including site inspections in required timeframes
  • Assessing the impact of development proposals in relation to development issues and determine appropriate development requirements to ensure orderly development
  • Providing detailed reports to Council and other committee meetings, as well as expert evidence in any legal related planning matters.

These roles have different salary ranges depending on qualifications and experience:

  • Senior Development Planner - $96.3 to $115.5K per annum + leaseback vehicle 
  • Development Planner - $82.9K - $99.5K per annum

A leaseback vehicle is provided in this Senior role for official duties and private use and your choice of vehicle will be provided when one becomes available in accordance with Council’s Vehicle Policy. In the meantime, either an alternate pre-used vehicle or a vehicle allowance of $200 per week ($10,450 per annum) is temporarily applied for this position due to ongoing issues with supply for new vehicles.

A 9 day fortnight work-cycle currently applies to this role with flexible/hybrid working arrangements available.

Successful candidates may be required to undertake a course of vaccinations against Hepatitis A and B and Tetanus or demonstrate their immunity.
