Working in the Water and Sewer directorate you will be responsible for safe, proactive and reactive maintenance and risk management on mechanical assets and legislated critical infrastructure both within Council workshops, treatment plants, headworks, water and sewer networks which are across multiple sites including residential environments.

Our ideal candidate will be someone who is trade qualified and experienced with process equipment, preferably within the Water and Sewer industry. You will be able to work alone in a fast paced environment and look for the best and most efficient ways to maintain and repair mechanical assets, looking to take initiative where it's needed.

There is a requirement to participate in a rotating on call roster, some weekend work will be required. Penalty rates will apply. 

This position is required to provide quality customer service and create value for the community.

Key activities of this role include:

  • Ensure assets reach designed operating life, by performing scheduled maintenance and reactive repairs to mechanical process equipment in the field, at treatment plants, within workshops and across Council facilities or locations as required
  • Strip down and carry out condition assessment of all mechanical assets as directed (including pump units) ensuring maintenance tasks are undertaken in accordance to work requirements, measurements and report recommended action to the Team Leader or Engineer with documentation actioned according to work order request required
  • Investigate and trouble shoot mechanical assets, and apply engineering solutions in consultation with Original Equipment Manufacture (OEM) documentation, Engineers and Team Leaders and communicate when assistance is required

Essential Criteria:

  • Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade or equivalent Fitting / Machining), combined with ongoing professional development
  • Valid Construction General Induction card - NSW WorkCover or equivalent OR willing to obtain prior to commencement
  • Current Class MR Driver’s Licence
  • Demonstrated experience working in a similar mechanical workshop environment, with demonstrated experience in using manual lathes, radial drills and universal mills
  • Demonstrated experience in being able to interpret OEM manuals and schematics
  • Demonstrate experience in pump repair and assembly
  • Ability to complete work and deliver according to project schedules, deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Strong customer service ethos and a demonstrated customer-centric approach to service provision
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in communicating effectively and exchanging of information both verbally and in writing with staff and other stakeholders

 

This role provides a salary range of $1,333.80 to $1,600.18 per week ($69.5k to $83.4k per annum) + $18.28 weekly allowance + Superannuation.

A 9 day fortnight work-cycle currently applies to this role.

Successful candidates will be required to undertake a course of vaccinations against Hepatitis A and B and Tetanus or demonstrate their immunity.

Shortlisted candidates will be required to undertake and pass a Confined Spaces medical.
