About the Role

Leadership opportunities to make a significant impact on the future of your local community may only come once in career, but that is exactly what this role offers. 

You'll be coaching and mentoring the Design Section's civil designers, working together to deliver designs for Central Coast Council's Roads and Drainage Infrastructure Four Year Delivery Program and Annual Operational Plan.  

On a day-to-day basis, you'll be responsible for providing comprehensive civil engineering design and drafting services for roads, stormwater drainage and other civil construction projects while applying sound engineering principles utilising industry best practice design and drafting software.

You'll manage investigations into engineering matters, preparing reports, environmental assessments and cost estimates to recommended efficient and cost effective solutions to complex problems, with a focus on meeting all appropriate legislative obligations.

You'll manage projects and related activities undertaken by consultants and contractors from brief preparation and tendering through to completion of designs with a focus on contract administration and project management. 

You'll also play an important consultative role, preparing and coordinating advertising and public display plans to keep customers, emergency services and transport operators informed during the concept design process and will work closely with Council’s Construction Sections during design development and construction delivery.

Last, but not least, this position is required to provide quality customer service and create value for the community.

About You

With a background in Civil Engineering or a related field, you will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience in Civil Design. 

You may have worked in a similar role in local government before but if you haven't, your experience will certainly add to the diverse skills and knowledge of our team. 

You're collaborative, generous with your advice and build credible relationships with ease, helping you to effectively coach team members, championing their development and success. 

You bring solid experience in project and contract management to deliver on agreed performance criteria. 

You have previous exposure to engineering surveying practices, drafting design plans and drawings. 

You're consultative, solutions focused and you communicate regularly and clearly so everyone is on the same page. 

You're able to conceptualise complex design proposals to design and develop 3-D computer models that bring projects to life.
