  • Commencing salary range between $1,276.45 to $1,531.25 per week ($66,554.10 to $79,839.38 per annum) + commuter use vehicle + superannuation

The Supervisor Mechanic Heavy is responsible for the smooth running, organisation and management of Councils heavy mechanic workshop. Your role is responsible for overseeing all practices and procedures within the workshop and ensuring maximum availability of Councils heavy vehicle fleet. You will be required to engage with apprentices, employees and other supervisors within the Plant and Fleet Unit, provide training and be a role model and workplace coach to junior members of your team.

This position is required to provide quality customer service and create value for the community.

Key activities of this role include: 

  • Directing staff and the day-to-day operations of Council’s heavy mechanic workshops;
  • Ensuring the timely preparation of weekly works programs and co-ordinating the works in accordance with priorities;
  • Liaising daily with relevant stakeholders to provide assistance on matters relating to heavy vehicle maintenance and programming;
  • Manage and assist the team’s timely acquisition of parts, services and materials to meet works program timeframes.

Essential Criteria:

  • Minimum Certificate III in Management or equivalent or demonstrated solid contemporary experience in leadership in a related field;
  • Automotive trade qualifications;
  • AIS Examiner licence or willingness to obtain;
  • Current Class C Drivers licence;
  • General construction induction card (white card) or willingness to obtain;
  • Excellent skills and demonstrated experience leading and developing a team to achieve agreed goals and outcomes;
  • A customer service ethos and a demonstrated customer-centric approach to service provision;
  • High quality problem solving skills and a demonstrated ability to effectively adjust plans and schedules;
  • Sound knowledge and experience in sourcing parts, parts procurement, receipting and all facets of work order management;
  • Knowledge and experience with asset management systems;
  • Knowledge in business software applications;
  • Sound knowledge of MS suite of software programs including Excel.

A 9 day fortnight work-cycle currently applies to this role.

Successful candidates will be required to undertake a course of vaccinations against Hepatitis A and B and Tetanus or demonstrate their immunity.
