This role will see you lead a team of professionals responsible for developing, implementing, monitoring and reporting upon major urban and strategic planning initiatives for Council's Environment and Planning directorate. You will also be involved with the planning and design of masterplans, public domain and concept plans, and the delivery of city planning and design initiatives to improve the performance of Council's built and natural environments.

Key activities of this role include:

  • Develop, monitor, review and update all strategic and urban design policies and practices;
  • Identify future strategies that improve, protect and value the built environment whilst also identifying opportunities and creative solutions for future urban growth;
  • Plan, educate and coordinate the implementation of special projects that respond to strategic planning and urban design projects.

  • You have extensive experience in urban or strategic planning
  • You are a strong leader with a passion for mentoring others;
  • You have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and are comfortable interacting with all levels of people in the organisation, including Executive Leaders and senior stakeholders; 
  • You are community minded and have the ability to work in a fast paced and political environment;
  • You enjoy sharing your knowledge and expertise, while also learning from others;
  • Having a work/life balance is important to you.
